LITTLE WOLF RIVER (Waupaca Co., WI, 25 miles east of Stevens Point near Big Falls)
LENGTH 8 mi., CLASS II, GRADIENT: 13' per mile
SEASON: A week or two in early spring and right after intense rainstorms during the summer.
PUT-IN: Mud Lake Rd. Bridge 8 miles upstream from Big Falls.
TAKEOUT: Co. Hwy. C bridge at the town of Big Falls. To shorten the run you could take out at the Co. Hwy. J bridge.
GAGE: There is not a USGS gage but there is a NOAA gage downstream of this section at Royalton. This gage gives stage heights (you'll have to scroll through the list of all the other gages on the NOAA website). You can also check the Red River and Embarrass gages to get a sense of what the area rivers are doing. This river is usually only runnable after heavy rains or during the spring melt.
FUN FACT: Miniature canyon.
SHUTTLE: From the put-in drive to the south and east 1.5 miles to Co. Hwy. C. Take Co. Hwy. C a little over 5 miles to the town of Big Falls.
