COPPER CREEK (Gogebic Co., MI, 8 mi. north of Wakefield)

LENGTH: 2 mi., CLASS II-IV 5.5 mi. on Presque Isle, GRADIENT:

SEASON: A week or two in early to mid spring.

PUT-IN: Hike east towards the river on the old logging roads 3.4 miles south of the Porcupine Mountain State Park boundary on Hwy. 519. It is about 1 mile through the woods to this creek. You may have to blaze your own trail.

TAKEOUT: South Boundary Road Bridge over the Presque Isle River.

GAGE: You can use the Presque Isle staff gage on the downstream side of the center pillar of the South Boundary Road Bridge.

FUN FACT: Creek run followed by a bigwater run on the Presque Isle.

FIRST DESCENT: Jim Rada and the Minnesota boaters

SHUTTLE: From the put-in, drive north on Hwy. 519 to the Presque Isle Parking Area.

This run consists of three sets of drops: Ogima Falls, Ogimakwe Falls, and Abinodji Falls. The creek then empties into the Presque Isle River for the end of the Conglomerate Staircase, the Lepisto sequence, and the play water before you reach the bridge.
