There was kayaking down Stite Street Friday. Sixteen-year-old Michael Giddings made three runs down the muddy stream that's now rolling down State Street.
He entered just.below the Federal Building, scraped-along macadam, and rocks, then disembarked at 2nd South to astonishment and pleasure of passerby.
Looking on was his father, Univerisy of Utah researcher Dr. J. Calvin Giddinings, a pioneer Utah kayaker, who, in 1975, was the first to navigate the the upper headwaters of the Amazon.
Michael began his kayak training when he was five in the YMCA pool. He made his first river run when he was six.
A[n] East High Sehool student he plans to be a computer science or design engineer.
